This was taken Tuesday (2017, 10-17) early that morning on our long walk. US Coast Guard are at work here doing what I don;t have a clue but they kept cruising up and down this area of the Mississippi, north of Lock & Dam 25.

If you view on this link "Walking The Mighty Mississippi" look just above that barge & in the distance you can see the US Coast Guard ship.

Hope you are enjoying my 2017 Missouri trip, haven't taken many more pictures - fall colours are very dull here. I'm just enjoying relaxing, laughing with my sister-in-law. What a change from Arnea's, lol

From the looks of this boat it belongs to coast guard but used for river maintenance like placing the buoys etc. Nice capture!

A nice take of the river at the moment, shows very well some of the busy river travel. Though it appears to be going up hill? tigs=^..^=

I would bet, Pat, that they are the ones responsible for determining snag and sandbar locations and placing the buoys to keep the river traffic safe. Oh! Like Raj said above (I just noticed after I wrote this).
