the area missing from the middle is the part that was blasted away. the dark area of the dome can be seen somewhat in the middle of the dug out area. the mountain can be climbed but not from this side. a truly beautiful place on a truly beautiful day. thanks for any comments. ENJOY!

Can you imagine being there when it erupted? What a nightmare that must have been. This is gorgeous, Jen. A beautiful view of the mountain with the low hanging clouds.

I was here when St Helens blew, we had to wear mask so as to not breathe in the ash in the air, as it would stay in your lungs forever if you got enough of it in. It was a bright sunny day, and it turned very gray. When you went outside, it was like walking in gray snow. I live a few hours from there, and it was very bad for all. The ash drifted all the way to Russia.Quite a day. V

Jen - A breath-taking scene. As Verena describes, it was horrible when the eruption occurred. However, it has a unique beauty as the mountain has begun to recover. The cloud across the mountain adds much to the scene. Your photo has great clarity and lighting. Thad

Hi Jen
A very nice shot of old St. Helens! May 18 1980 we were a mile away from this mountain on the opposite side of the blast. We were very lucky the blast went the other way or we would have been gone. Lovely clear and crisp image!
