Barkhamsted, CT, USA. Completed in 1940, the Saville Dam is 135 feet tall and 1950 feet long, creating an 8 mile long reservoir of 36.8 billion gallons of water from the Farmington River as a primary water source for the greater Hartford area. This is the upper gatehouse, with fine stonework, sitting atop the earthen dam. Three bracketed exposures, combined with HDR work, are in this image. Enjoy!

I like how the rough, dark gray cut stones, on either side of the door, contrast with the lighter gray cut sontes, making them look like either keys or crosses. I also like your positioning of the structure, offset to allow the size of the lake itself to come through.

FDR really lets the colors shine through Thad. Well composed and the strip of the lake really brings the scene to life.

Very impressive, not only in the structure itself, but also your postwork. I like that we can see the water, and the autumn colors. Tigs♥ =^..^=

Most unusual and impressive dam photo. Gorgeous scene. The architecture style of the gatehose is a familiar shape for me. This looks like some ancient structures of Seljuklu, here in my country. -Tanju

Wow, this is what I call a top notch photo. Incredible detail. I love the grey stones of the dam contrasting with the blue sky scattered with white clouds here and there. You have done a super job in focus and composition and of course in post-processing of this shot. Very nice!
