Just did some selective coloring. If you look closely, there is so much body language going on it boggles the mind (this is war of the world's).
First wanted to name the picture War of the Hats. I get the feeling this is real wonder why her feathers were ruffled.

Gossiping never goes out of style, Rob. Word has it that you do an outstanding job. Not gossip, just fact.

...who is being applauded by the woman on the right, for wearing the same hat as hers but with the audaciously wicked sense of design by shaving off the top 3 inches and foregoing the much hated "Black Band", forced on them by the treaty of 1872, in which the opposing "Husbands", the victors in the year-long "War of Robespierre's Parlor", were then allowed to dictate women's fashions in the village, the smallest and, arguably, the most counter-culture of all the villages in the islands. The war was started by the simple but ridiculous condition of the past war that dictated that all written and spoken sentences could be no longer than 20 words or one breath, but, as most wars tend to do, it escalated far out of hand and control, with many cultural oddities of the village being contested and brought to the forefront. That being said, I, as the fearless chronicler of the Virgin islands contemporary history, and Charlotte Amalie in particular, must now go back into hiding, since none of the sentences I've just now used are 20 words or less... I also need to catch my breath. Such is the life of a patriot (Oh, dang, that was only seven words!).

Luckily for the people of this village, the next generation thinks it's all pretty silly (notice the laughing little girl?).

[The funny thing is, I wrote all that goofy stuff up there when I saw this image in the Approvals listing. I hadn't read your post about a war and so my fake "war" was just a product of my over-active imagination.]

Very interesting image mainly by the body language the women are projecting - again, Rob, you did a fantastic job in coloring this old photo - looks like the lady in the dark brown dress is saying something to the woman with her arms crossed, (defensive/threatened posture) that she's not at all happy about - the kids want no part of this conversation, as they are looking in the other direction.

This sure is a good one makes us wonder what the heck was going on. I'm thinking by the little girls sheepish look that her and the little boy did a no no, and the lady in the middle told on them, bringing the other two ladies face to face. tigs=^..^=

This could be anywhere - the women gossiping and I believe it is a juicy bit being discussed.
The woman in the dark dress (the beautiful children are hers) is telling the story, her neighbour in the print dress is listening as is the folded-arm woman who looks a bit defiant and does not believe a word of it !
I don't thtink the children have been bad - they are just smiling for the camera :)
Beautiful colouring - just enough

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Rob, I believe that the colorization process has contributed significantly in stimulating the imagination in such a way that it has led to the above discussion. I suppose that the B&W version wouldn't have achieved such an effect. I agree with you that the picture expresses a particular body language, but I've my doubts whether it concerns gossip. I like to leave this to someone's imagination.
Either way, the selective mode of colorization is again performed perfectly, my friend.
