"Ten mint chips for 5 cents, distributed by the Colgan Gum Company, Louisville, Kentucky". The clothing styles and the fact that this guy is held for our inspection because he's a widower, and unemployed, is certainly a sign and common subject matter of those times. One can only assume the gentleman wearing his hat is not a widower and not in need of a haircut (the marital status and hair needs of the boy is a bit more obvious). But I find the signs painted on store walls to be every bit as interesting. Doing a little online research I find that these mints were meant for digestive relief, and the Colgan company was an early marketer of countertop display boxes for their product, making it easier for the shop owner to sell them. 5 cents in 1911... wow... if this guy managed to get a job, imagine what his salary would be? Minimum wage in 1910 was 22 cents an hour so after an hour's labor he could effectively get rid of a belly ache... or create one. The last store on my town's Main Street that had a brick pier foundation like this one, was removed and rebuilt as late as 8 years ago. Amazing how long some things last.

I have been to Meridan, Mississippi but I never saw this guy. :)
It looks like he is keeping his "eye out" for a new companion, Rob.
Again Knik's information adds to you fine work.

I see a foot trying to photo bomb this guy coming in from the left! I like the umbrella resting under the window. Bet this may be the rainy season and these guys are ready for it. I also like the boy in the picture. Makes me think he may be a grandson, or maybe a son, to one of those other two guys. Good one - Rob.

Rob, your editing/colorization is that natural and perfect, that it seems to me now that you've used the selective coloring principle to achieve a sepia background instead of the opposite to get a vintage photograph! Another proof that you're a master in this branch of art, my friend!
