Ichabod Crane incarnate. Or a young Abe Lincoln, before he let himself go. These very first selfies really didn't do their subjects any favors. But when you've only got one try at it, sometimes things can go very wrong.

Abraham Lincoln's stunt double, Richard von Finkelwaite, was responsible for accompanying Mary Todd to all her theater visits. A near-disastrous confrontation with an itinerant traveling acting troupe had left Abe with a dread of the stage. Dick got sick on some bad pork on April 14, 1865, when a production of "Our American Cussin'" at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C. was on Mary's dance card. So Abe had no choice but to go. If not for trichinosis we wouldn't have lost our sixteenth president.

Okay, 90% of that was not at all true, but Durand certainly does resemble Lincoln, somewhat... mostly around the pork chops... okay, mutton chops, then. Just a little New Years silliness, Rob. [oD

I do see the resemblance to Abe as well. You have learned the right touch of colorization for these Rob. Very well done, I like the portrait sitting they did of Asher as well.

Classic pose Rob. You have scored 100 per cent on your rework of the 75 percent posing method. I had to laugh at Knik's remarks.

Wow! Matthew Brady photographing Asher Durand (of the Hudson River School of painting) makes quite a duo of American art. Excellent work!

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
