Sam Hood was obviously a great photographer and you did him justice with your colorization. I really like the mirror in the image.
I traced her family tree to Clark Twelvetrees. I love that name.
Sadly, if I ever saw her in a movie, I don't remember.
I suspect her trees smoked a lot.
Thanks for such a great post.

Helen Twelvetrees was born Helen Marie Jurgens in Brooklyn, New York on December 25, 1908. Her interest in the theatricals was apparent at an early age. After graduating from high school Helen embarked on a stage career. She participated in a number of plays in New York City, but gravitated toward film when she headed to the West Coast in late 1928.
From a mini-bio here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0878546/bio

She would have been a contemporary of my mother's favorite actress, Jeanette MacDonald. And although she made a fair amount of movies, her film career only spanned about 10 years. The movies she did make are mostly forgotten now, or remembered for stars that weren't her. Too quick to marry the wrong man, and maybe too familiar with alcohol, she suicided on February 13, 1958. An artistic portrait if ever I saw one, Rob. Unfortunately, the lives and lights of some movie stars burn brighter and hotter than those of ordinary people, and sometimes they burn out prematurely: River Phoenix, Brandon Lee, Marilyn Monroe, Heath Ledger, Jayne Mansfield, Paul Walker, Chris Farley, John Belushi, etc., etc.
