The bliss we see on his face belies his environment, or at least that is how it appears. As Lyn mentioned, he may have been blind, or perhaps he was acting for the camera. Whatever the case, the character of this individual and all the unique details of his surroundings make for a very interesting image. I remember cast iron railings like this from my youth, the feel of running my hands along those sharp points atop the rail. Takes me back. I'm amazed at the variety of photos and subject you've been finding and sharing with us.
