It's never really a good idea to know what lies at the back of a restaurant. This is a good example of what the eye doesn't see, the stomach won't grieve over.
Salmonella will do that to you. Oy! Looking at this image I don't feel so bad about my family's café that I worked in as a teen, many years ago. It was old but it was clean. The duotone character you've given this image makes it even more unnerving, and the tight pano provides a claustrophobic feel as well. I see the back door is open... that has to be for relief from the heat and humidity of a restaurant kitchen. Also, the drive on the far left, with the barely recognizable form of a woman walking by in the distance, completes the separation between the world we know and the more secret one of food service workers. From my own experience I know that most of them would rather it wasn't this way, but they're hourly-wage workers and don't really have a say in how things are done. Another excellent and permanent entry into the Photo Journalism Gallery (which I keep hoping we'll someday get here at Caedes). -Nik
If you've ever wanted to make a difference but found it hard to believe that one person could... check out the Kiva Team Caedes discussion thread and discover that anything is possible.
Thanks and congratulations, dear friend.
