Nice details on him Sandi - I can clearly see his eye. We have a male-female pair coming round this winter. One of my neighbors is feeding though it's against the rules. (I'm buying her food - she's in a spot where not as many people can see her terrace so she's not been caught yet.)
I'm so glad for you Sandi. I would love to get some shots of those beautiful birds. This is nicely focused. It looks to be one of those overcast days but at least it makes the colors richer. Overcast days make it hard to get a good eye shot that really shines.
You give us many gifts Sandi, this is a treasure, what amazing creatures, and the details and light give us a close up view, that otherwise, we would not have been possible to see.
With the frost on the underside of his beak and on the tree branches, and what looks like a couple snowflakes in the background, the way he's huddled on the branch makes this an outstanding winter photo. I saw one here at Caedes, many years ago, quite similar but was a much wider shot, the cardinal in that one appearing about 1/10th the size. It did the same thing as yours, though, placing a point of bright color in an otherwise bleak scene, promising hope for a future season.
