Today I took a friend to Black Pine Animal Sanctuary which is about an hours drive from my house. She had never been there and really enjoyed the visit. Mufasa was her favorite of them all.

I used the D500 with the Nikkor 70-200mm lens set on Spot metering, with a low aperture to shoot through the fence, and it was a cool, cloudy day. I did just a little cropping, and did a bit of cloning to get rid of some straw that was on his beautiful mane.

Thanks for your comments, I appreciate it.

His nose and chin are spectacular, Sandi, and I can see the faintest dark lines of the fence, but you need to just bite the bullet. Shooting at a longer focal length, f11 to f22, you could still get a lot of his face in the frame by cropping off the fence. Sometimes getting an extreme crop of an animal like this gives the viewer the sensation of seeing it, face-to-face, from a foot away. The immediate reaction is one of total surprise, as in "How the heck did you get this close to him, Sandi?" Just a thought.

See by the wise look in his eyes that Musafa is a king, Sandi.
Great that you've have captured this expression that clearly.
Along with very good editing work, etc. (like cloning out the straws on his mane and 'disappearing' the fence), you've provided us with a perfect 'portrait' of His Majesty Musafa.
S+F! Thanks, my friend.

BIIIIG kitty!

Smiles ... I love those expressive brows and the freckles on his nose. lol

But what an intense gaze! Locked in on something.

Great capture of expression and majesty, Sandi!

I can't imagine him allowing anyone to mistreat him Tigz. I wouldn't want to "be on his list."
I think you did a good job with the fence.

Emptiness is not nothingness. It is simply the opposite of full of it.
