Before I went on vacation, I went with a friend to the local zoo. This is one of a few shots I took that day.

I used the Nikon D500 with the Nikkor 24-120mm lens. Thank you in advance for your comments.

Taking the length of the neck of the giraffe into account, it's a kind of 'bird's eye view' and it would have been a good entry for the just done Seen From Above contest. Causes to me some fear of heights, ☺ .
Well done, my friend.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

They are not the most handsome animals, but this is surely a neat capture of this one.

Many people think that giraffes have a bunch of horns, and your side view might support that idea, but they're not actually "horns" or antlers... they're Ossicones. The "bony things" on a giraffe's head are called "ossicones." They are growths formed from soft cartilage that has super hardened (ossified). They remain covered with skin and hair/fur, unlike the horns of deer and antelopes. Giraffes have 2 ossicones on top of their heads; those of the female are smaller than those of the male. It is with these "horns" that the giraffe can be sexed: Females have a tuft of fur atop of the horn, whereas the males horns are bald. Some males develop calcium deposits on top of their heads, creating an illusion of three or more horns. So, since the top ossicones on this giraffe of yoursare bald, Sandi, it has to be a male. And we can determine that without having to look at the bottom of their feet (they way proper ladies determine the gender of puppies... nudge, nudge, wink, wink). A nice clear shot of this one... we can even see his beard.

Its markings will have a hard time blending into these surroundings. A good headshot Sandi.
