My friend Ashley has some goats she is going to show, and breed, and asked me to take some pictures for her so she can use them on her site.

Here is the first of several I have to share with you.

I appreciate your comments, thanks! :)tigs=^..^=

Because of his attitude and appearance, this must be almost a clever animal, Sandi. Goats have a reputation for being a bit stubborn at times. I do not rule out that this one may also be afflicted with this property. Anyway, a very nice and cute picture!

This fine fellow clearly has character, and the markings on his coat give him a stylish and artistic attitude. Your portrait does him justice, so your friend clearly picked the right person to do the series.

They are sure not very big, I've never seen them up close. They are certainly cute though. Nice photos.

I had come across a number of goats in the children^s portion of a zoo we visited last month, and had marveled at the pupils in their eyes. Thats because the goats pupils are horizontal, not circular like ours, or vertical like a cats. Why I somehow neglected to get a macro of the phenomenon I cannot say. Doh! Der! Duh! Your fun capture, Sandi, reminds me of that oversight, one I should be able to rectify at our own local zoo, but at least yours does not include a cage. According to scientists at the University of California, Berkeley, the shape of goats pupils can be traced back to their place in the food chain. Goats are herbivores and need to be able to protect themselves when a predator comes along. A broad line of sight, aided by wide, rectangular-shaped pupils, allows them to see danger approaching from their peripheral vision. Their eyes also have a remarkable ability to ^rotate in the head to maintain parallelism with the ground,^ says Martin Banks, the lead researcher on the University of California study. This means that when goats bend their head down to graze, their eyes stay level with the horizon, allowing them an even better view of encroaching danger. Pretty cool beans.
