This lighthouse sits on the very rocky entrance to Eagle Harbor. According to Wikipedia it is one of several light stations that help guide mariners on Lake Superior.

The focal height is 60 feet wih a range of 29 nautical miles, or 33 miles.

The original one was built in 1851 and replaced in 1871 by this one, which is automated. It is a Michigan State Historic Site, and listed on the Natl. Register of Historic Places.

I loved this area, and there are more pictures to share. This lighthouse is on the Keweenaw Peninsula of the U.P. the far north region of the U.P

Thanks for your comments, I do appreciate them.

Sandi, in former days I've tried to avoid to see lighthouses from this side (😁) , but as a 'non salt' now, I have to say that you've provided us with a wonderful capture of one of the many lighthouses in this area. Thanks for that. Thanks too for the very interesting additional information.

When we traveled the southern Superior shore in 2001, I had originally planned to have us visit the tip of the copper peninsula, the ^mouth of the wolf^, as it is sometimes called. After seeing photos of the area I think we need to make another trip out that way.
