Calendars are now available

Submitted by caedes 11/27/05 8:12 AM GMT

After approximately 3 hours and 1000 clicks I've managed to upload the calendar images to CafePress and they are now available for ordering. I've prepared a special Caedes.net Store where you can view all the calendars at once. I finally chose to use CafePress after getting the quality print example from them and after comparing the shipping prices with other services. These are by far the best shipping prices I've seen ($4 for the first calendar plus $1 for each additional calendar). They also state that you can get your calendars before Christmas (with the cheapest shipping method) if you order by Dec.8. I'll also be giving out a month of Cadre membership per calendar purchased. Just send me a PM after you make the purchase and include the name of the person who made the order (so I can verify it).

Was the "quality print example" something you sent them .. or something they had on hand and sent you?

if you sent them ... then I could have all my stuff printed by saying .. "I'm still not sure .. print this"

and then ..

"Yeah .. dis is Guido on long island .. how duz I no if'n youze guys iz any guud"

Great idea to have the calendar for us in the southern hemisphere, though its a shame that it costs 36.68 AUD, fairly steep for a calander, regardless of how unique. (equivalents, though less unique usually cost 20.00 AUD). Damn the global economy, poor exports, world bank debts, John Howard....

The designs look great but I have one concern. The titles and member names appear to be close to the edge. Will this calendar have a sprial binder through this area or will this calendar have staples?

Fantastic work, Caedes! You've clearly been busy. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong but I'm trying to see all of the images in the various calenders and I'm just able to pull up four thumbs on one page and the image for January. Is there a way to see all the images including in all the calenders? Again, thanks for your hard work! Wen

I am not trying to complain, but honestly, $20 for a calendar? Those comic strip calendars are usually under $15, and they have to pay expensive royalties to the author. Where does this $20 go? Assuming you are making profit (hinted at by you giving away cadre membership), could there be a "bulk" discount? I was considering buying 5+ calendars to give away to people, but I won't be able to unless there is some sort of discount in purchasing several. If you did, your profits would still be insured and probably increased, because people are more likely to get several if the next few are cheaper.

I am not sure how to make the tone of this message change, but it is meant to be a lot lighter than it seems reading it. I am not going to promote boycotting, for I am not angry; I am more curious and surprised than anything.

heidler: The calendars are stapled, not spiral-bound. So there won't be any problem in seeing the titles. I already had one printed so I'd know exactly what it would look like.

jzaw: You can click a link from the details page of each calendar to see the individual images used in each one.

Luke - the prices are slightly higher than you would have expected as the Cafe Press print all their items on demand i.e. nothing is printed in advance and are just done to order. The higher price is the downside of that equation - the upside is that there is no upfront cost of printing in bulk and Caedes doesnt end up with several cupboards full of unsold calendars.

The shipping for one is cheaper when you order more then one, and there might be a slight (5$] discount if some of your friends here send you a digital coupon when they had bought theirs, I didn't know who might want to have mine so I send to some of my dearest friends here, not knowing if they needed it. I could have sent one your way but it's too late for me. Perhaps someone of the others will do that for you instead? ;)

That's very true about the cost of print-on-demand versus bulk printing. Most services would print the calendars for less than $5 each, however they also require an order of 1000 at a time. Then there is still the little problem of taking the money and shipping the product out to all the different people.

If anyone wants a coupon, just post here and perhapse someone will be nice enough to send you one when they make their order.

When I told my dad, he was rather angry about the whole ordeal. He thinks that I should go to snapfish or kodak and print calendars with 12 of my images instead of just one, and it would be the same price. I, on the other hand, feel loyalty to the site along with a community type of comfort. I would rather have them be officially published and be able to tell people that my photos were selected than to have one of all my own pictures.

I will be able to purchase 3, possibly 5, myself, which is substantial considering my budget. I will guarantee an order of 8, possibly more, from my household if there is some type of bonus for ordering several when actually purchasing them (shipping doesn't count, apparently). Just out of curiosity, is it one month of cadre membership per calendar or per order? Also, would anybody be willing to send me a coupon?

I really am sorry. My dad has a business mind, and that tends to make him a stick in the mud in such cases. Do forgive him, he doesn't mean it.

Larry,
after I filled my cart, and clicked the 'proceed to checkout' I was given a page with my cart number at the top and an option to complete my order by phone with their number using my cart number as reference. You might try filling the cart the way you want it and getting those numbers to call and ask about other options.

I have to agree with your dad to some extent. You might want to consider making a calendar of your own featuring all your own images. I can understand how you would want a caedes calendar as well, but the other members' photographs probably mean less to him than they do to you. Why don't you just save the money from a few of the caedes calendars and use it to buy your own from snapfish or where-ever. I recommend Cafepress since the price is less than snapfish. You don't have to sell them to other people unless you want to.

I too can see your dad's point of view stuffnstuff but this way it's not just you going out and creating a calendar with all your pictures, yours was actually chosen to be in a calender, which is pretty sweet. Anyone can go out and create those calenders but not everyone can have the opportunity like we have now and I think it's worth the extra money.

Sure it would be cheaper for the calender itself, and you wouldn't have to pay for taxes & shipping & handling but again, the caedes calender has a little more meaning because we were chosen out of so many others to be a part of it.

Yes, I've done some googling on this one and it looks as though customs randomly stop any number of parcels and then charge any appropriate duties and import VAT. The charge is working out at about roughly 27% of the order total (36% if you take it as a percentage of the value of goods, not including postage). Bummer. I guess I'll have to pay it.

I must have been lucky with various other overseas packages I've had.
