First images...

I've now posted my first ten images. Ten being a nice round number and all, I thought that now might be a good time to ask for some feedback (am I [merely] taking up server space? or is there some hope?). I'm not making much sense of the c-index as feedback. It tells me my images are not popular but not whether or not they have elements which might be better developed into improved desktops. I have no idea what people do and do not like about the images, and I have no way of knowing the standard deviation either.

I'd particularly appreciate any suggestions you might have for improvement and whether attempting to improve is worthwhile/realistic. Some of the images' blurbs mention issues I am especially concerned about (mostly how-to questions), but comments are naturally welcome on any aspect of the images.

The images are here or at <http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Caedes::Gallery&author=margali&page=1> if the link fails for some reason.

Tunnelling in Colour (xfractint, gimp) includes a question about using lighting effects to give fractals which are otherwise flat depth. I accidentally discovered this possibility (though probably it should have been obvious) and ended up with an image in which a particular point became the highest one. I wanted to create an image involving the reverse of this - a sort of tunnel effect towards a particular point which would be the lowest in the picture. I cannot figure out how to do this, though.

The Guardian involves a flame fractal (made in Oxidizer) and a jewel attempt. Layering, the jewel etc. were done in gimp. I'm having problems getting my jewels and, especially, metalwork to look as they should (from nmsmith's tutorials). This isn't a criticism of the tutorials - they seem admirably clear. I'm just using gimp in place of Photoshop and not finding "translation" straightforward.

Steps to Infinity was rendered solely in gimp. It began as an attempt to follow the tutorial on fractal flowers, but looks nothing like one.

Super-highway, Magical Reflections, Blues and Climbing Tree are all straight from xfractint.

Rainbow Flower, The Bugs' Halloween Ball and Astral Bridge are xfractint images post-mangled in gimp.

Comments and suggestions on any of these images would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
cfr
