Don't begrudge the smudge painters their due .. (*the Renaissance Man final is quite remarkable*)
needless to say, this isn't the sort of thing that will produce quality results for you right out of the gate ... stick with it ... the tutorials are written for photoshop .. but, you should be able to accomplish the same thing in other digital painting apps
