Would it be possible to place a time limit for editing posts. I participate on another (computer help) site where the limit is one hour.
It has two advantages - it encourages members to be more careful with, and to check, their comments, and prevents discussions being disrupted and often made senseless by mischievous posters changing the words and often the meaning of what they have written, which can make subsequent posts in response useless and unable to be understood. As there is no public indication that a post has been edited (unless the poster says so) the changing of them can often make following comments to be taken out of context and be offensive to the wrong person.
The downside would be that spelling errors or genuine mistakes would have to remain unless noticed within that time - I often see and correct mistakes I have made weeks, sometimes months later. However, that would be a small price to pay to prevent otherwise useful conversations in the discussion boards being totally wrecked by anyone deliberately changing what they said, causing chaos and upset.
My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
