Wilmaaaaaaaaa

Boy, Fred Flintstone would really be hollering at this Wilma. I just wanted to make a post to let folks know that my family and I are all okay after the hurricane and to give other people from South Florida a place to check in and let us all know how they're doing. I'm planning to set-up a portfolio of some of my damage photos so subscribe to this discussion if you're interested and I'll post an update when it's ready.

We don't have any power at my dad's place where I'm staying and no immediate prospects of getting it back. We have minor damage to the house and significant damage to the trees and pool enclosure, although we have some of the least damage I've seen. At least our bare trees and enclosure frame are still standing and we have working plumming. South Florida schools are cancelled all week and many areas don't even have working water. Almost all traffic lights I've seen have blown away completely and power poles are snapped off and uprooted all over the place. The biggest trees you've ever seen are uprooted and blocking roadways. FPL has said that 50% of South Florida should have power back by Nov. 8, and 95% should have it back by Nov. 15.

I am currently enjoying electricity and hot water at the Emergency Operations Center where my dad works as a liaison to all the municipalities of the county during disasters. I don't know when I'll be back to power and internet again but I'm enjoying my Caedes experience while it lasts.

It may be a while before most South Floridians can get back onto Caedes so if you're waiting to hear from someone, know that they are probably safe but may not have internet access for quite some time. We are all very thankful for this unseasonable cold weather while we have no power. The folks in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico have it much much worse than even the disaster zone around here so pray for them first if you're the religious sort. Be well.

***UPDATE***

I have uploaded my initial photo album. It will be accessible from my main website (JTitcomb.com) shortly, but in the mean-time here is a direct link:

Note: It may take a few minutes to load if you are on dial-up. Sorry about having so many preview images on one page.
