Here's a bit of nostalgia, this is a rebuild of the original settler's cabin that had stood on this spot since the mid 1800's. The old cabin caved in from age and weather a few years ago, and the rancher that owns the land decided to build a facsimile of it on the same spot. They built it over the past few months. One thing to note is that the top front log on the left was one that had been felled by a beaver, you can see the teeth marks. Another bit of info is that the logs used are Osage Orange from local trees. The wood is dense and rock hard, so it will last for many, many years. Many fenceposts can still be seen in this part of the country that were made of Osage Orange, it stands up to the elements very well over time. The stone structure to the left is a root cellar/storm shelter that is being rebuilt as well. My dad took me to see the original cabin when I was a boy, and I think it is fantastic that the current landowner has kept this peice of history alive, kudos to him for doing so!
