The origins are lost in the protohistoric period although there are testimonies that make up the foundations of Privernum at least four centuries before Rome, and the twelfth century BC. Priverno was described as a powerful Volscian center during the fourth century BC that, after long struggle, was subdued to Rome by Lucio Emilio Mamercino and Gaius Plautius Decianus that thanks to this victory were both elected Republican Roman Consuls. Currently just near Priverno there's the famous Fossanova Abbey where is buried St. Thomas of Aquino.
