"AU" stands for Alternate Universe...Namely, an alternate storyline that spins off from an established storyline or in this case, storyline and accompanying illustrations...Comic book and sometimes even videogame publishers, do it all the time...

Now, I haven't abandoned the Mess County storyline at all...It's just that the part of it I've reached requires a few detailed illustrations that I haven't a clue as to how to go about constructing right now, hence - the AU...I'll get back on track, eventually...
