Plebejus idas Local details Flight period: Mid-May to mid-September. Habitat: Dry, sheltered margins with broom growth and some bare ground amongst the vegetation. The male has a rather thin, black margin on the upperside with some black spots edging it on the hindwing. On the underside the orange band is really pretty solid and a vivid colour. The sharply pointed chevrons are characteristic. The ground colour of the male's undersides is pale grey but those of the female have a brownish tint in them. The uppersides of the females I've seen were brown (no blue) and the orange lunules confined to the hindwings where they were steeply arched around the black spots. Occasionally there are no silver centres to the rather large marginal spots on the under hindwing. The females tend to perch on or near broom stems which helps in identifying the species Info from: http://perso.orange.fr/felixthecatalog.tim/idas_blue.htm Photo taken in Smedby, Sweden with Konica Minolta Dimage Z5.
