Actually this is Fireweed and the nickname comes from Alaska. This plant is in the Newberry Caldera in Oregon right on the edge of the Paulina Falls. It's called a "calendar" because when the very top flowers open up means there is six-weeks until the first snowfall, or major weather change. It is surprisingly accurate. Please enjoy and many thanks in advance for any and all comments.
