This Tudor house in Stratford-upon-Avon is the birthplace of William Shakespeare and was occupied by his family from 1552, 12 years before his birth. It remained in their ownership until the 19th century. The timber is oak but Shakespeare would not have seen the house as it is now, as it was the Victorians in the 19th Century who removed the plaster, exposing the timbered walls.
