The Basilica di Santa Crose (Basilica of the Holy Cross) is the principal Franciscan church of Florence. Legend says that Santa Croce was founded by St Francis himself. The current church was begun in 1294 when the architect, Arnolfo di Cambio, laid the first stone, but the neo-Gothic facade, by Nicoḷ Matas, only dates from 1857-1863. I did not manage any good shots of the whole building but hope this view of the tower and my other upload conveys some of the wonderful detail. This is one shot I did not tweak the sky :). . .
