The ancient Elephant Rocks that sprout from the rolling hills in the Waitaki Valley of the South Island of New Zealand became Aslan's Camp in The Chronicles of Narnia in 2004. These outcrops of limestone were originally limey sands accumulated in waters 75-100 deep in Oligocene times, approx 25 million years ago, which hardened to limestone. Uplift within the past few million years brought the limestone to the surface where it has been sculpted into these shapes by wind and rain.
