The second of 7, this is Lake Tekapo, Mackenzie Basin, South Island, New Zealand. It covers an area of 83 square kilometres (32 sq mi) and is 710 meters (2300 feet) above sea level. The area is noted for its sky clarity and lack of light pollution and the neaby Mt John observatory attracts many visitors from all parts of thre world. . . . . . . .
