Chris (coram9) kindly offered to do some work on the original for me and this is the result which I am delighted with and my thanks go to him.
His improvements included adding a vignette. Reduced contrast overall then increased lightness and contrast around the mountain. Darkened the sky a little. He used Nik Color Efex pro and Viveza as plugins to Aperture. I am sure you will agree he did a great job.
