On 29th November 1910 the Terra Nova departed Port Chalmers near Dunedin, New Zealand for Antarctica.
The Scott Memorial Cairn commemorates the deaths of Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his 4 companions in 1912 on their return journey from the South Pole.
The Memorial is made of local stone, 12 metres high, with a concrete anchor on top.
The inscription includes Captain Scott's last message which I hope you can read. I find it very moving.
