Arctocephalus forsteri, the New Zealand Fur Seal or Southern Fur Seal. Kekeno is it's Maori name. They are a protected species after being almost hunted to extinction in the 1880's
I was delighted to encounter this one basking in the sun today while I was out for a walk along the breakwater. I think it is quite a young one. Adult males can grow to 2 metres long. Never get between one of these and the sea- they can charge remarkably fast !
Taken with Canon 450D.
