Taken down by the riverside this afternoon with Panasonic TZ60. The Waitaki River is a braided river.(Globally, braided rivers occur only in mountainous, glaciated areas where natural gravel production, river flows and gentle gradients allow them to form) This one has eight Hydro Electric power stations further up country.

This is a folk song everyone here knew in the 60s & 70s and shows a little of the Aviemore dam construction. The Ballad of the Waitaki It is quite catchy !

The Waitaki River derives its name from the Maori words wai (water) and taki (weeping) - and so is Weeping Waters.
