Today, February 22nd at 12.51 pm the Canterbury Earthquake National Memorial was unveiled and dedicated exactly 6 years after tragedy struck. It is a 112.5 metre white marble wall with the names of the those lost engraved on it, overlooking Christchurch's River Avon and it is called Oi Manawa.

I wept as I watched the commemoration online and heard the names of the 185 people lost read out. There were messages and flowers from all parts of the world and I hope those thousands gathered to grieve were comforted. So many lives changed for ever in those few tragic seconds, and so many hearts still broken and still hurting.

The names on the wall are grouped together by location rather than alphabetically, which I think is beautiful and all the more poignant. They lost their lives together and now their names are forever together. May they all rest in peace and may those who still rebuild their city and their lives find this a place of peace.

Many people dropped roses into the River Avon today. I could not be there to do that so I post this red rose in memory instead.

Thank you for looking.

Last night Bruce Springsteen gave a concert in Christchuch and dedicated this song to the city, to enormous applause. My City Of Ruins
