Some more of the Irises growing near the garden plaque I posted recently. The wall is made from Oamaru Stone, sometimes called Whitestone.(Its a limestone) It is quarried locally and has been used as a building material since just after the affluent gold-rush days of the 1860's until the present day. Many of my town's oldest and most beautiful buildings are made from it and also the office where I work - it is a modern building but has some skillfully carved decoration included as a tribute to our area heritage. It is also highly prized as a sculpting material
