This little park called The George Jones Park with its memorial gateway is on the main street of my town. The Hon George Jones (1844-1920) was the editor and owner of our local newspaper as well as being a well known musician. The large neo-classical building across the road was once a bank and is now our Art Gallery (c.1884) The one on its left is described as Italian Renaissance Palazzo style and still houses a functioning bank (c.1870). You will notice the railway line goes across the main road. The other building on the left with the clock tower used to be our Post Office and is now a restaurant called "The Last Post". The buildings are made from local limestone. There is always a lovely display of flowers here, but I was a little late to see these poppies at their best.
