The NZ Fur Seal has large rear flippers that rotate forwards enabling them to 'run' quite fast over the rocks. This one has a way to run as it has come ashore further along from the rest of the colony. It is resting before joining them. I think this is a young one. The males grow up to 2.5m and females 1.5m. They can dive for food for up to 11 minutes to a depth of over 200m. Females produce their first pup at about 3/4 years and then one every year for life.
