The Tyndale Monument sits above North Nibley in Gloucestershire. Erected in 1866, in remembrance of William Tyndale. Tyndale was born locally and in 1525/26, was the first person to translate the bible into English. He was executed for doing this in 1536. The monument is 111'(34m) high and access to the top can be achieved via a narrow and partially lit spiral staircase. The ribbon of water just short of the horizon is the River Severn and the two bridges into Wales can be made out to the left of the photo.
