A documentary about painting I watched on "the rules of abstraction" got me thinking in a new way when I'm out and about Pentax in hand. The point was made that the original step taken by "abstract" painters was not to abandon form but to see nature with an abstract eye rather than with a representational eye. To stop seeing nature as "beach and water and sky and clouds" but as lines and textures and shapes and then paint those lines and textures and shapes. I've found it a very interesting and rewarding mental tool to have in the field and on the pc later when deciding how to approach a particular raw file. This particular shot I really see as an abstract study rather than as a landscape.
