The Bure Marshes include four broads and this photo is only a tiny part of one them. The broads are disused peat workings dug between AD 900 and 1350 and represent an example of unreclaimed marshland supporting a wide range of plant and animal communities in the open water and carr woodland (fenland woods dominated by alder trees).
