An obedience-trained Dalmatian dog travels with each hitch, a Budweiser tradition since the 1950s. Its roots trace back to Croatia and its historical region of Dalmatia. Historically, the role of the Dalmatian was to run under the carriage (not riding on top of it) and or wagon as it traveled down the road and to attack anything approaching the horses and to protect the team while the driver went inside buildings to make deliveries. For this, the dog needed excellent endurance and stamina.
