I had a lot of difficulties this year because the camera on my tripod would not hold my camera tightly, so I ended up holding it steady -- but I'm not that steady. I used varying lengths of exposure, usually in the 2 to 4 second range. I could then trigger the camera when I saw a launch and capture the burst. Of course, this also requires that you have the camera's focus fixed. There is nothing to focus on in the dark. I also use a low ISO, like 100, because the fireworks are bright and I want to get the colors without washout. I almost always use a wide angle and then crop in editing.
