(Plimoth Plantation) I wish I'd asked why the woodpile was piled as such, but my guess is that it best allowed the wood to season while in a configuration that withstood the gale force winds from the nearby sea. Once seasoned, portions of the wood would likely then be restacked into manageable piles next to the dwellings. For perspective, if you stood next to this pile, it would tower over you by at least another 4 feet.
