This is a detailed view of the arched facade of the front door of Notre Dame de Paris. It depicts the Resurrection and Judgement Day with Jesus in the centre on the throne. He is holding his hands in a pose of "...Alright! The game is over, let's see who's done what". The angles in the two rows/archs above him seem to be most interested in the proceedings: look at the two immediately above and to the right of Jesus, for example. The saints in the four outlying arches -saints, based on their robes, books, and halos- have much grimmer, sadder looks to their faces; as if they feel a great pity for their kind being in such trouble! Immediately beneath the throne of Jesus you see the souls awaiting judgement (Left), the scale in the centre, and the sinful souls being dragged away in chain by two demons (Right). The carvings to the right of this row show more demons in a scene from inferno. In the lowermost panel notice the souls waking up to the bugle (angel to the left) and emerging out of their graves/coffins. ps The orange hue in the centre part of the arch is not my manipulation. It is caused by the last rays of sunshine in the cool afternoon!
