Papal Palace, Avignon, France. For a few hundred years there were two papacy establishments: one in Rome and one in Avignon. The two were bitter enemies each side excommunicating the other pope and his followers! Finally, Rome won. This pic shows the once flourishing papal palace in Avignon; quite a sight to see!
