We went to the DOC (Department of Conservation) office in Queenstown to ask if there were any short walks nearby that we might take; the girl at the counter recommended one to Lake Dispute, which you can see part of on the left (the other one is, once again, Lake Wakatipu). We assumed this would be an easy trip round the lake; however, at the point where I took this shot we had already climbed quite a steep hill from the road; you can see the path leading off over the hill through farmland; then hiked a not inconsiderable distance up this one (which was still a much more gentle slope than the first). After crossing over the top of this ridge and starting down the other side I decided it would be wiser to head back. God knows where we might have ended up if we had kept going... one of the signs said it was four hours to the next lake if I remember correctly and I think that's where we were headed. Anyway at least the trip back down was a lot easier, and took about a quarter of the time! The view was nice I guess... but then this is the sort of thing we saw around every corner of the road in these parts...
