If you've been ballooning, you recognize this moment - the fans, powered by the chase truck's batteries, have blown air into the envelope, leaving the vast beast to loll on the turf, and with a sharp bark of warning at those holding the balloon's skirt open, the pilot's ignited the burners.

As the air in the envelope heats, the balloon will rise until the passengers are clambering into the basket for fear of being left behind. They will cook from head to elbow for the duration in the downdraft of the burners and will not complain even once as they float more effortlessly than gulls over the countryside.

Daytime shot but to capture the flames, all else had to fall into shadow.
