I travelled about 15 miles by flatboat to get to this rookery. It was out in the middle of a Lake in Bayou Lafourche country and there were floating islands in the area. Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Cattle Egrets, Little Blue Herons, Great Blue Herons, Tri-color Herons and numerous smaller birds were nesting in the Elderberry and Live oaks on the small island. Ibis in their splendid red mating colors were in the trees in flocks, but they were only resting for a while. When I see these wonderful things in nature, I know where man copied much of the styles of clothing and costumes through the years, particularly the Elizabethan era and the Victorian era.
