The Long Jetty, which was opened in 1939, is one kilometre long, and said to be the longest in the southern hemisphere It was originally constructed during WWII to facilitate the berthing of Naval ships during war time. It was then used as a commercial shipping port up until 2003 when it was damaged by fire. Unfortunately it remains unused to this day but I did just hear that plans to restore it are underway!!! It's difficult to imagine the sheer length of it as it is long and L shaped. In this image the section that you cannot see behind me it is approximately 200m long and you can just see the other end on the far right. I think I'll use this for the current contest "FRAMED"
