Looking through a ground floor window on Boyd's Tower. The tower was built by Benjamin Boyd in 1846 as a lighthouse at the entrance to Twofold Bay Eden. The government of the day refused permission for its operation as a lighthouse. It then became a lookout for whale spotters who guided the boats to kill migrating whales. The square structure is 62 feet high and made from 1/2 ton sandstone blocks, quarried in Sydney, transported by sailing ship to Eden and then carried 2 at a time by bullock team to the building site.
