Yesterday I received an inquiry as to the people of Sedona. Around 1 A.D. a large group of native americans occupied the mesas and canyons of Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and Utah. These ancient peoples were divided into the Anasazi, Hohokam and Mongollon. The Anasazi occupied Southern Utah, Nevada, Colorado and Northern Arizona and New Mexico. The Hohokam occupied most of Arizona and the Mongollon,South eastern Arizona, South western New Mexico and Norther Mexico. A subgroup of the Hohokam, Sinaqua (without water in spanish) occupied the area around Cottonwood Arizona, (15 miles away from Sedona). Here is an image of the ruins that they left.
